Tires

Keep Your Tires Rolling
Selecting the right tires for your vehicle and regularly monitoring their performance will take you and your vehicle a long way.  However it is equally important to know when it is time to bring your vehicle into Fairview Acura for professional care.  Performing the following maintenance on your tires when required will help them last longer and make your vehicle safer.

Alignment
Proper alignment is a key component to prolonging the life of your tires.  If your vehicle is misaligned, it can cause your tires to wear unevenly and you may experience handling problems like "pulling" or abnormal vibration.  Fairview Acura often has a alignment special in the spring and fall every year.  Please call for details today.

Rotation
Because rear wheel and front wheel tires experience varying stresses, rotation is important to ensure even wear.  This means switching your tires' position on your vehicle.  Doing so will prolong the life of your tires and will reduce the risk of sudden tire failure.

Generally speaking, tire manufacturers recommend your tires be rotated every 8,000 to 13,000 km (5,000 - 8,000 miles).  However, if at any time you notice any unusual wear, your tires should be checked by a qualified Fairview Acura technician.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System
Many new Acura vehicles now come equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring system (TPMS), which automatically detects and alerts the driver when there is an increase or decrease in tire pressure.  If you see the TPMS light come on please check your pressures or Call us today.

Balancing
Finally, your tires should be balanced.  If they are out of balance, you may feel a pounding or shaking though the steering wheel or your seat.  This can shorten the lifespan of your suspension components as well as your tires.  This can also increase fuel consumption.

Tire Knowledge

Tires are the most ignored and underrated component of your vehicle.  They are the only interface between your Acura and the road to provide traction to accelerate, steer and stop.  Fairview Acura knows your vehicle best and will ensure it’s equipped with the optimum choice of tire for your driving needs.

Winter Tires
  • Winter tires stay flexible in temperatures below 7°C to provide the necessary traction for cold weather driving conditions.  They reduce braking distance on cold, wet, ice and snow covered roads in comparison to all-season tires.  The traction provided by winter tires enhances the performance of anti-lock braking systems (ABS), vehicle stability assist (VSA), traction control and all-wheel drive in winter conditions.  Industry data shows that in cold weather, a vehicle equipped with winter tires has approximately a 40% lesser chance of being involved in a collision versus one equipped with all-season tires.
All-Season Tires
  • All-season tires are designed to provide traction and durability in a wide variety of seasonal road conditions.  However, they cannot provide the same levels of traction in winter conditions as a proper winter tire.  They are best suited to use in temperatures above 7°C
